Gold for U9 Jr. Lady Sting - Team Zettel
I'm so proud of all three of the U9 Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting teams that competed in the Brantford Walter Gretzky tournament this past weekend. The three teams (Atwater, Taylor and Zettel) completed the round robin play in the top of the division and represented Sarnia in top form. I'm especially proud of Team Zettel for going undefeated the entire weekend and bring home the GOLD medal.
For a team of 7- and 8-year-old girls that mostly just started to play competitive (full ice) hockey in the past couple of months, it was amazing to see how they all embraced the roles they have on the team. Throughout the weekend, every girl contributed to the success we had and gave a strong effort that exceeded my expectations, both as a team and individually.
What I'm even more proud of is the team spirit on and off the ice. It was amazing to see the girls build strong friendships and create special memories through-out the weekend. One of my favorite moments was when our Goalie (Cobie) was given a well-deserved MVP award after we won the Gold, she in turn on her own decided to give that award to a teammate. This for me demonstrates what we are trying at achieve with having our girls in sports, which is well beyond the winning and losing.
Special shoutout to my coaching staff (Nate, Courtney, Meghan) for all the time spent to help develop our girls. As well, shoutout to our fabulous Den Moms to help get the girls ready.
GO STING!!!
