Hello Players, Parents & Guardians,
On behalf of the U9 Lady Sting coaches and the entire organization, we extend a warm welcome back for another exciting year of hockey. We wanted to make sure that everyone was all set for the start of the prep & sort skates and have outlined a few items below that we thought would help.
Through the course of prep & sort skates, please keep an eye on website, specifically U9-Hurst as all updates and changes will be loaded here until teams are officially sorted. Please also double check the calendar to verify what session your player skates as it's sorted by last name for the first 5 skates.

Here are some important points regarding our upcoming prep & sort skates this weekend:
- Upon check-in, you will meet the U9 coaches before proceeding to the dressing rooms. We want to be able to say hi to your players and introduce ourselves if we are new to them.
- The Association will be collecting Permission to Skate forms if needed (this is for players who played with another girls organization only last year) and ensure the try-out fees are completed. It's critical to note that if either of these items are missed and needed, your player will unfortunately not be able to skate.
- Parents will not be allowed in the dressing rooms; den moms will be there to assist in getting players dressed. Players can also dress in the hallway if preferred, using the provided chairs or come dressed, with just skates to be tied.
- Lastly, it's really important that you arrive with enough time, depending on your player's needs, to get dressed to be ready to go on the ice as soon as it's time so that Den moms aren't trying to assist a lot of last minute players.
Our main focus during the prep skates is to ensure a fun and enjoyable experience for all players. The goal is to shake off the summer rust and get ready for the upcoming season. There will be no evaluations during these four prep skates, and coaches will not be on the ice.
After the prep skates, we will move into the sorting phase, consisting of three additional skates where players will be evaluated based on their individual skills.
Here's how the sorting will be conducted:
- Players will initially be divided into two groups based on their last names for the first skate.
- Subsequent skates will group players based on skill level into Tier 1 & 2, followed by Tier 3 & 4.
- Tier 1 will be the competitive team, with Tier 2 possibly following that path. Tier 3 & 4 will form our house league teams, with a focus on equal talent distribution.
Lastly, we are still in search of a head coach for our Tier 4 team, and we are committed to supporting anyone interested in this role. It is a fun and rewarding position so please do not hesitate to ask any questions if you might be interested.
Thank you to all parents and players for your support. We are proud of the progress the Lady Sting organization is making and look forward to meeting everyone this weekend. Feel free to reach out with any questions; I will be available before and after the skates for any inquiries.
Thank You,
Chris Hurst
