Matthew Barnes Named as U9 Coach
Matthew Barnes has been selected to coach the SJLS U9 team
Matthew Barnes was born and raised in Brights Grove and Sarnia. He played travel hockey for Sarnia AA where he captained the team to an unprecedented four tournament championships in their 2000-2001 season. To this day he proudly displays his favourite award, the “best backwards skater” on his mantle. He won this in major peewee. He stopped playing hockey to concentrate on his education - which brought him to Australia to complete his teaching degree. Upon his return he helped coach high school sports for SCITS and St. Clair while starting his teaching career. He was honoured to be the head coach for the u9 HL Sarnia Lady Jr Sting last year. Matthew has two lovely children, Livia (7) and Tully Lou (5) which he shares with his wife Katie. When he’s not working at Refined Fool Brewing Co, he spends his time skating backwards in various men’s league and re-injuring his right shoulder joint.
