Vaccine Requirements - Action required
Submitted By Leanne Vidler on Saturday, October 9, 2021
After reviewing the OWHA Vaccination policy released October 4th, 2021 we will now be collecting proof of full vaccination for all players and bench staff born in 2009 and earlier.

These are emailed directly to myself and Jen, you do not need to collect these for your team.

Proof of Vaccination by division:FUNdamentals, U9 and U11: Bench staff only is required
U13: Some players and all bench staff required
U15 and U18:  All players and bench staff required

Families and Bench Staff,

On Monday, September 27, 2021, the OWHA met with Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Province of Ontario.Pursuant to this meeting, effective immediately, it is mandatory, as a condition of eligibility to participate in any OWHA-sanctioned activity, that everyone born in 2009 and earlier must be fully vaccinated (2 shots plus 14 days) as soon as possible and by no later than November 1, 2021. This includes all players, staff and volunteers, including coaches, trainers and officials. The only exemption from this requirement is for two specific medical reasons which must be approved by the OWHA and not our organization. Contact Tara Paisley if you require the form to submit your vaccination exemption to the OWHA.

As of Sept 22nd, all spectators are required to be fully vaccinated to enter the arenas. Security has been hired by the city to manage this.  Under the provincial rules around youth sports, all players have until November 1st to be fully vaccinated. This includes the 2 weeks following their second dose. Anyone not meeting this requirement will be removed from participating until they have met this requirement. All players (born in 2009 or earlier) and coaches must submit proof of full vaccination by email to our compliance executive Tara Paisley at [email protected] or Vice President Jen Tomkins at  [email protected]. Vaccine receipts can be downloaded from the Ontario health website https://covid19.ontariohealth.ca/ and attached as a pdf to an email.  This information will be used October 17, 2021 (last day to be fully vaccinated by the November 1st requirement) to determine who will be able to continue with the organization in both player and volunteer capacities.  If the vaccination status has not been received and cleared by our executive you will be removed from the roster and unable to participate in OWHA sanctioned activities until this has been received and cleared. As with police checks the data will be stored in a secure location and destroyed when it is no longer needed for the season.

As an organization we are doing what is required to keep our teams on the ice and our girls and families safe.  Please remember all of the individuals working in our organization on and off the ice are here in a volunteer capacity so these girls can play hockey.  Please treat them all with respect.

Thank you

Sarnia Girls Hockey Executive

Note regarding players born in 2010 or later:  The policy states; “At the present time, no vaccines have been approved by Health Canada for children born in 2010 or later. However, once such a COVID-19 vaccine has been approved, the OWHA will re- evaluate this Policy and consider whether or not to extend the definition of Vaccine-Eligible Players to include players born in those years. Further, at the present time, any player born in 2010, and who has begun the 2021/2022 OWHA season ineligible because of their age to receive an Accepted COVID-19 Vaccine, will not be required to complete their series of an Accepted COVID-19 Vaccine to finish the season.
