Good morning Sting parents, players, coaches and trainers!
Here is the info. for the Irish South Bend Cup Tournament, Fri. Feb 10th until Sun. Feb 12th in South Bend Indiana which is the home of Notre Dame University. It is a 450km / 4 hour trip to South Bend so the team has chartered a bus from Great Canadian Coaches to make the trip together. The cost is $70 per person. However for families planning on bringing 4 or more, we have capped the cost at $250 for parents, sisters and brothers. Additional friends, grandparents etc are welcome to join us at the $70 rate. The bus is equipped with wifi for everyone's convenience.
We should have about 40 people in total on the bus. With a quick head count of the Coaches and Trainers we have 22 people going from those families. Please confirm with me by Tuesday’s practice how many will be travelling with your family. It is a 52 seat charter bus. Lot's of room for lots of fun...or rest LOL.
We hope that everyone chooses to take the bus trip. Our girls will feel like Olympian's pulling up to the arena in their own bus as a team. The hour's on the bus travelling together to a major university for an exciting tournament will provide great memories. I think all parents agree that our 2 tournaments this year have been the highlight of the season so far and this trip promises to top them all.
The Sarnia Sting Girls Peewee B team is also entered in this tournament. They are travelling on their own bus from Great Canadian Coaches as well. Coach Jon Leppington owns the Balmoral property so that is why we are all planning to leave from there. I haven’t seen their schedule yet however it’s quite likely that we’ll be travelling to South Bend in tandem with them. Let’s be loaded and ready to go so we can get to the border before them!
The tournament is being run by Hockey Time Productions which is the same group that ran the Novi Tournament so we know that it will be very well organized.
We will be leaving at 6am on Friday morning from Pt. Edward from the parking lot of the old Balmoral Hotel. The bus will be traveling directly to the arena that is hosting our first game which is at 12:30pm at the Ice Box Skating Rink in South Bend versus the Wolverines Gold team.
After the game we will check into our hotel, the Best Western Plus Mishawaka. There are several places to eat at by the hotel. We have a block of rooms set aside for us under the name of the Sarnia Sting Peewee C. I called them on Thursday at 1-574-273-2309 and confirmed our room with them. Please call to confirm your room just in case I’ve screwed something up. Check out the hotel website, it’s a nice place and they provide a breakfast every morning. You can walk to the Mall and restaurants from the hotel.
Our division is called U12 Red. There are 4 teams in our division. They are the St. Louis Cyclones, Sylvania Girls Northstars and the Wolverines Gold as well as ourselves.
Depending on how we play our final game will be at 8pm Saturday night or at 10:20am on Sunday morning. So we’ll be home at a good time on Sunday regardless of the outcome.
